The Greening the West strategy, launched November 2013 is a vital document for the promotion of sustainable and healthy communities in the western suburbs of Melbourne. The strategy aims to increase the amount of urban green spaces, vegetation and street trees.

The plan outlines Greening the West’s vision, goals and targets, and highlights the benefits of urban greening for local communities and provides a framework that local councils can use as a guide for developing urban habitat and green space.

This strategic plan has been facilitated by the Greening the West Steering Committee, which is made up of an
alliance of partners – City West Water; the councils of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Hume, Maribyrnong, Melbourne,
Melton, Moonee Valley, Wyndham and Yarra; the Victorian Department of Health; the Victorian Department of
Environment and Primary Industries; Melbourne Water;Western Water; Parks Victoria; Urban Development Institute
of Australia; VicRoads; Western Melbourne Regional Development Australia Committee; and Yarraville on the
Nose Community Group.
