Damian Young and Rowan Carter presented an innovative approach to a stormwater project where through integration with Auckland Transport they were able to deliver multiple benefits. The project delivered not only quantity and quality discharge reduction outcomes for the Alexandra Stream but also delivered a new cycle way and amenity asset for the community.

Take home messages from the presentation and paper were:

  • challenging traditional approaches to stormwater management and trialling new technologies
  • the benefits of adopting a holistic approach to stormwater management that takes into account amenity, transport and environmental objectives
  • linking design elements back to planning objectives.

These take home messages are also relevant for the way we approach stormwater projects in Victoria.
