On Friday June 3rd Clearwater in partnership with Melbourne Water and the Institute for Public Works Engineers Australia (IPWEA) presented the Hot Topics workshop “Starting an Asset Register for Water Sensitive Urban Design”. Forty three people attended this event at the Fenix restaurant in Richmond.

This workshop was designed to encourage local government to formally establish and use a register to record information on water sensitive urban design (WSUD) assets.

Speakers on the day included Peter Morison from Melbourne Water’s stormwater quality team, Thomas Kuen speaking on behalf of IPWEA Victoria and Martin Musgrave from the Urban Development Institute of Australia.   All speakers outlined the importance of recording data for WSUD, highlighting key steps in developing an asset register.  Their messages were reinforced with case study presentations by Voytek Lapinski of Whittlesea City Council and Peter Diprose of Stormwater Victoria.

Workshop discussions throughout the day allowed attendees to examine how successfully WSUD information is being captured in their organisation. A range of ideas, opportunities and considerations raised during the workshop feedback have the potential to help local government and authorities support the development of WSUD asset registers.

Recommendation and findings captured on the day is available for download.
